Attractions In Phoenix And The State Of Arizona
Phoenix, Arizona offers a great hub from which one can explore the American Southwest. If you've never driven through the desert, it should certainly be on your list of trips to take at some point. This distinctive landscape has a stark beauty and a breathtaking scale that makes for a wonderful road trip. The Phoenix climate, while obviously very warm in summer months, makes for a superb destination at times of year when you might really want to leave the cold and snow behind, for little bright sunshine.
When you come, the Grand Canyon has to be at the top of the list of places to see. There are few sights in the whole world that rival this natural wonder and you'll be glad you made the trip up from Phoenix for a look. It's five hours of breathtaking beauty unto itself actually, from the low desert up to Flagstaff at almost 10,000 feet, then across to the south rim of the Canyon.
Scottsdale is a wonderful place for activities like golf and shopping, with fine dining and upscale nightlife as well. Many people are surprised at this small slice of Beverly Hills in the middle of the desert, but for tourists it makes for a nice break and a little pampering.
If you're feeling adventurous take a trip down to Tombstone Arizona, one of the places where some of the stories in the Wild West mythology actually happened, at places like the OK Corral.
Phoenix restaurants naturally lean toward the regional cuisine known as southwestern cooking, and if you like Mexican food, chilies and some spiciness with your meals you will love authentic Southwestern cuisine.
Cheap Phoenix hotels are also easy to come by, with all the major chains represented as well as many independents. Phoenix's location on the Interstate 10 freeway means that it's a natural stopping point for long-haul travelers. If you find yourself in need of a room on your way cross-country do yourself a favor and don't just stop in Phoenix overnight. Linger for a day or two if you can, as this city has something for everyone.
