How to Become your own Boss

Jan 11th, 2010

We are living in an age of increasing stress and pressure. We need to work harder and longer and rather for less money than more. No surprise that every year over 600 000 people decide to take control in their own hands and decide to start a business for themselves. With the increasing popularity of the Internet it is only a matter of time before this number will increase and people will make their money with the use of Internet.

In order to become your own boss you have to be sure that you have a plan worked out on how to make money. It does not matter if you are planning to make money with an offline business or with an online Internet business as long as you have thought it out. Of those 600 000 people starting their own business, only 45% survives the first year so make sure you belong to that 45%.

Becoming your own boss is actually the same as beginning your own business and in order to do that you will need a good research plan. What product do you want to sell and why would people buy this product from you? Do some surveys about products you are interested in and see if people really would buy your products. You also need to think about where you will import your products and how much that will cost. Often people will forget about the shipping and handling costs if your , for example, import cheaper goods from China. In order to succeed you need to have a solid plan and done a few surveys.

Becoming your own boss is actually not that difficult as long as you have an idea. But you have to be sure that you want to become your own boss for the good reasons. Often people will think you have to work less and you can decide whatever you want when you have become a boss of your own but sadly that is not true. In fact it is the other way around, when you are your own boss you have to work even harder and longer in order to make a profit. You also have to think about all aspects that are related to working on your own. Taxes, payrolls, bonuses, clients calling you, all of this was the work of your former boss but now you have to handle it for yourself.

Don't get me wrong because starting your own company can be great as long as you have the right intention. If I look at myself than I rather work 2 times harder and be my own boss than working for someone else.

Other important options to consider are patience and asking for advice. Don't quit your day job just yet before you make any money at all. First try to start your own business next to your day job and see if it works. If you believe you can make a living with it than quit your job when the moment is there. You also want to ask advice from people that are more experienced. Ask people that sell the same related products or services about how they made it so far. Try to learn about how they did it and try copying it if possible. Don't be to stubborn and believe you can do it yourself because when you can't it will already be too late.

I hope this articles helped you in any way on how to become your own boss. Off course there is much more to it but it is hard to write that all down in 600 words. If you want to know more about starting your own business than do some inspiration by reading a few books about this subject.
