This is a short guide for blood stain removal from your clothes or from your carpet. Blood stains are very persistent and hard to remove if you wait to long. The most important thing you should do to remove blood stains is acting fast. Although many modern carpets today are prepared with stain resistant treatments, blood stains are very hard to treat. But if you do it right you can remove them quite easily. The longer you wait the harder it gets to remove the stains from the carpet or from your clothes. When blood gets old it will coagulate and this will make it very hard to get the blood stain out.
Guide for removing Blood Stains
1. It is possible to extract and rinse the blood stain with the use of cold water. Only apply a little bit of water at a time because if you use too much water, the blood stain will spread. You don’t want to use hot water because hot water will set the stain and make it permanent. Therefore it is very important only to use cold water. When you have added the water you have to blot it up with some paper towers or with a cloth. You can also try to suck the stain out with a vacuum cleaner. The advantage of this last method is that you have less chance on spreading the blood stain.
2. There is a chance you will not get the entire stain removed with the method described, therefore you have to make a solution of cold water with some dawn dish detergent. Carefully work the solution on the remaining blood stain and be careful you don’t spread the stain. Again try to blot the stain with a paper towel or a clean cloth. Never use the paper towels to rub on the carpet because you might damage the fibers of the carpet/clothing. Damaged fibers also tend to hold the stain and removing it is much harder.
3. Don’t worry if this process will not remove the stain at once. you can repeat this method a couple of times, as many times as necessary, until there is no more transfer on the cloth or towels. When you are done don’t forget to blot op the water you used.
4. You can dry the carpet/clothing with a blowing fan aimed on the area. If you don’t have a blower than you can also use a few paper towels and leave them on the stained area and put something heavy on top of it. Leave it there for a few hours so the towels will blot up the remaining water.
This method will work for most methods but if you are too late it will be more difficult. If the blood stain removal did not work, you can also try to use some club soda. If the blood stain comes out is dependent on the structure of your carpet/clothing and the fiber it is made from. It is very hard to remove blood stains from wool for example. Whatever fiber your carpet is, always try to to remove the stains with cold water first.
