A carpet provides you with style to your home interior but it also provides you warmth. In those cold months it is much nicer to walk on a carpet than any other flooring. However, the biggest task that comes with owning a carpet is getting the stains out that you accidentally spoil on it. Everybody has it’s own methods of removing the stains but if you don’t than this article will show you some basic carpet stain removal tips that you can apply. Before I write down some tips to remove carpet stains I want to state that you should NEVER rub any stain out of your carpet, always blot the stain.
So you spoiled something on your carpet, or maybe someone else has dropped something on your carpet that made it stained. The first thing you should do is removing the debris on your carpet. Try to remove as much as debris as possible before you will begin removing the stain. The best way to remove the debris is with the help of a paper towel or a cloth. If it is a small stain than you can apply this method on the entire stain, but if it is a large stain you should work from the outside and slowly work your way to the center. This will prevent the stain from spreading.
When you removed the debris, you want to blot the stain with paper towels or a cloth (again don’t rub). You can first try your way with cold water but if this does not work you can make a mixture that is a little bit more aggressive. Use a small amount of Dawn dish soap ( 1/4 cup) and mix it with 1 cup of water. Put it in a small container that can hold the entire mixture. Use a cloth or paper towels and apply this mixture on the stain. You don’t want to drench your carpet with it, try to use it gently. Now you can blot the stain with the paper towels or the cloth and turn it frequently. Repeat this until not much of the stain comes off on your cloth. When you applied the mixture to the stain you must now fill a large cup of warm water and use it for carefully pouring the stain. You want to do this for rinsing the dish solution. When the dish solution is gone you can use a clean cloth again and blot the remaining stain. You can apply a little pressure on the cloth, repeat this long enough until the stain is removed.
When you removed the stain out of your carpet you are not finished yet. Cover the entire area of the stain with clean paper towels and put something with weight on it so the paper towel will adsorb the liquid faster. Continuously refresh the paper towel until the remaining liquid on your carpet is gone.
Off course there is a chance that you were not able to remove the entire stain. If this is the case than we need yet a more aggressive solution to remove the stains. Make another mixture of warm water (1 cup) with a little bit of household ammonia ( 2 tablespoons) and again mix it into a container that is large enough for the solution. Pour the solution carefully on the stain in your carpet and blot the area just like you did before. When you finished blotting, don’t put any paper towels on it for drying the remaining liquid. You first need to neutralize the ammonia by mixing it with water (2 cups) and vinegar (1 cup) and put this mixture on the area where you used the ammonia. Take a large cup of water and put it on the carpet fibers. After this you need to start blotting again just like before. Because you now removed the ammonia, you can apply paper towels and put something with weight on it to adsorb the remaining liquid.
