What are the Causes of Excessive Head Sweating?

Sweating or perspiration is a physiologic response of the body to stay cool and removes wastes.  However, too much sweat is not normal anymore.  Some people tend to experience excessive perspiration in various parts of the body, such as in the palms, armpits, soles of the feet, face, and on the head.

Excessive sweating of the head is medically termed as ‘cranial hyperhidrosis’.  This condition can cause anxiety and embarrassment to individuals having this problem.  After all, who would want to walk around with a hair drenched with sweats?  Unlike in other areas in the body, head sweating can not be hidden; it is in the clear view of others.  In addition, it can also cause scalp itching and foul smelling hair.  To simply put it, it can be unhygienic and unappealing to some people.

Medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart attack can be accompanied severe head sweating.  Besides that, genetic or familial disposition are thought to be one of the causes of this condition.
