Seat Box or Fishing Chair?
There’s one item that no one in their right mind goes fishing without and that’s something to sit on – whether it’s a rug, a deck chair, a seat box or a purpose designed fishing chair, everyone takes something to sit on. It’s not unreasonable to want to take something comfortable to sit on; after all you will spend 99% of your time sat down.
It seems that in the coarse fishing fraternity that you group anglers in to three different categories; pleasure angler, match angler or specialist/specimen hunter. Each of these types of angling has specific needs and as a consequence the type of chair that suits each type is different.
The Match Angler
The match angler fishes for up to six hours at a time – they have a confined space to fish from and time is of the essence. A match angler should not be sat around doing nothing for long and as such this means that comfort does not rank highly on there list of wants from a fishing chair. In this instance a seat box is ideal for them – it’s compact, can be organized and keeps all of your fishing tackle safe.
The Specialist/Specimen Hunter
This type of angler demands from a chair almost the exact opposite that a match angler would. A specimen hunter will be sat for hours if not days without a single bite and as such comfort is absolutely essential. It is also likely that a specimen hunter will have more room to fish from and so compactness doesn’t come in to the equation. For this type of angler a purpose designed fishing chair is the ultimate choice.
Pleasure Anglers
This group is harder to predict. As the name gives an indication to, they are fishing for pleasure so comfort is important. Unlike the first two types of angler though, budget will come in to play and for this reason they may choose a seat box over a fishing chair because it performs two task and seems to be better value for money
