Healthy Recipes: Asparagus
Everybody knows that asparagus are good for your health. They contain a lot of vitamins and antioxidants that are known for their positive effect on health. This article will give some healthy recipes on Asparagus that you can use in order to prepare them in the right way.
The ancient Romans did more than conquering the world, they were also the first cultivators of Asparagus. The Egyptians adapted this custom and found this type of food special enough in order to use it as a gift for the gods. From back then until now the popularity of Asparagus has only increased but it is especially popular in the region where it original comes from: the Mediterranean. The funny thing is that Europeans prefer the white asparagus where as the Americans prefer the green/ violet green. The difference lays in the fact that the white ones are picked earlier compared to the green ones.
However, one color is not more healthy than the other as they both contain a lot of vitamins that are really good for our health. Asparagus are especially known for their vitamin c and antioxidants, but they also contain vitamin A, B6, folic acid and potassium. It also does not contain any fat and 5 strings of asparagus only contain as much as 20 calories. You could easily say that you can eat as many of them as you like without becoming fat. It also does not matter if you cook them or if you eat them raw, the nutrition's will remain in the vegetable.
A simple Asparagus Recipe
This recipe is enough for 5 people (on average). You need fresh picked asparagus (1 lb), a bit of olive oil and lemon juice.
* First you have to trim the asparagus. You can bend the stalks by bending the asparagus and snap them were they bend naturally.
* Now you have to place them in a large pan with water (approximately 2 inches of water)
* Now comes the most important part because you don't want to overcook them. You have to boil them until they will slightly tender.
* Now you have to drain the rinse with cold water. Continue doing this until the water stops boiling.
* Now we have to get the plates out and cover them with some lemon juice and a little olive oil for the taste.
That is all you need in order to prepare a simple healthy recipe for asparagus.
