How to Stop Smoking Weed
If I told you I had smoked marijuana every day for years, would you think I was addicted to the stuff? Why or why not?
For those who said no, I wonder if you are a smoker yourself. Are you? What makes you think that smoking marijuana habitually is not the same thing as an addiction to marijuana? If we were talking about any other kind of drug - be it alcohol, heroin, or caffeine - would you consider the same circumstances an addiction or a habit or something altogether not like either of those things?
For those who said yes, I wonder if you have ever been addicted to anything in your life. Do you see that addiction isn't just specific to a certain substance, but rather a type of mental action, or rather, a way the brain reacts to stimuli - in other words, people who deal with addiction have a biological basis in the brain for such behavior.
This is why addiction can be so varied. This is why someone can get addicted to gambling, alcohol, sex, painkillers, cigarettes, or internet surfing, when others can do all these things and have no addiction trouble at all.However, it's not as black and white as that makes it out to be, as certain substances or activities tend to be more addictive than others, all things being equal.And with that in mind, where does marijuana or weed fit into the addiction scale? Again, does smoking weed daily mean you're addicted?
I am only asking these questions theoretically; I personally do not smoke. But I see others who need marijuana addiction help and others who smoke and seem fine with it, no matter if they're quitting or playing for keeps.
I think it goes back to the biological mechanisms at work in the brain as to whether or not their is a huge risk factor at play in smoking daily. Some people will find themselves addicted, and will need to learn how to stop smoking weed. Others will go cold turkey, and experience symptoms of marijuana withdrawal on par with that of tobacco.
