Sweating is a normal function of the body to keep the internal temperature cool.   Usually, the sweat production of the body depends on its need.  In the case of excessive sweaty hands or Palmer hyperhidrosis, the sweat gland produced a whole lot of sweat than required. Most sweaty palms sufferers are most interested in knowing how to stop sweaty hands than determining the factors that causes it.  Nevertheless, finding a solution to control and eventually stopping this condition involves investigating why it is happening in the first place.  Some of the reasons cited include hereditary factors, an illness such as hyperthyroidism, obesity, hyperactive sympathetic nervous system and even stress. If you do not have any idea how to stop sweaty hands, there are two approaches to solve your sweaty problem.  You can choose between the non-surgical treatments and the surgical procedures.  Before you go under the knife, it is better to start from the less invasive ones, and just take it from there. For non-surgical approach, an oral medication like anti-cholinergic drug is prescribed by doctor.  Its action involves blocking Acetycholine, a neurotransmitter that initiates sweat production.  However, due to its side effects like blurred vision, urinary retention and dry mouth, it is seldom recommended by doctors. Antiperspirants that contain Aluminum chloride hexahydrate is also effective but only provides temporary relief. Botox which is popular for its cosmetic benefit is also effective in stopping sweaty hands.  It acts by weakening the chemical transmitter responsible for sweating.  The effect can last up to a year. Iontophoresis is a method employed wherein your hands are immersed in water, and a low current of electricity go through your skin.  One major downside of this procedure is that it can be painful, uncomfortable, and its effect only last for 6 hours. When all non-surgical treatments failed, it is now time to take another course of action; surgical treatment is the next best thing. Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy (TST) is a known surgical procedure that effectively stops sweaty hands, only a thoracic surgeon performed this operation. In this procedure, the surgeon will cut a small segment of sympathetic nerve that causes sweaty hands. Another surgical procedure is the Lumbar Sympathectomy.  This involves clamping the sympathetic chain that runs along the lumbar. There is no denying the fact that, surgical procedures are expensive, not to mention, risky.  Fortunately, there are a few tricks and trips that you can employ to reduce sweaty hands episodes. You can start off by carrying a handkerchief to soak up your sweaty palms.  Aside from that, wash your hands regular with cool water, or use talcum powder to remedy your sweaty hands.
