Information on Carbon Trading
Outside of Wikipedia, it’s hard to find a comprehensive webpage with information on carbon trading on the web. The EPA website has some information on programs enacted in the United States, but it lacks an objective comparison of carbon trading programs in the rest of the world. The same is found on the White House webpage.
It lists some of President Obama’s environmental objectives for his term, but most of it is quite vague and doesn’t outline a specific timeline to meeting their goals. After the climate summit held in Copenhagen, however, people are starting to pay more attention towards the subject. With concern over global warming at fever pitch and the economy at its lowest point yet, people have turned frugal and one of the results is using and paying less for what they have. One of the results is becoming more energy conscious and thus energy efficient such as buying hybrid cars and recycling.
Living with less in this difficult economy goes in tandem with becoming more environmentally conscious. People then become more aware of their impact on the environment and more keen on helping reduce their carbon footprint. Besides our individual efforts, a large part to reducing carbon emissions rests on the government. It’s important to know what is being signed into law, and how everyday citizens can get involved in the process. We should let our representatives know our key concerns and bring attention to environmental issues that impact everybody.
In order to lobby effectively we must know what existing laws regarding carbon emissions are in place and see how we can improve upon them. It’s hard to find clear and detailed information about this. Besides sorting through news articles it’d be nice to find more pages that provide current updates around the world which also have an objective standpoint on the issue.
