Making Your Own Pantry Cabinets

Jan 21st, 2010

Having a pantry that is well designed and well stocked can save you a lot of time when it comes to cooking around the house. If you have all of your items lined up exactly where you want them then this makes it a lot easier to get your hands on them quickly when you are rushing around the kitchen preparing for a big dinner party. Most houses, however, only contain regular kitchen pantry cabinets that are deeper and more useful for holding kitchen equipment and cutlery. However, it is possible to create your own pantry cabinets if you follow a few simple tips.

First of all, you need to locate a suitable kitchen pantry cabinet that you might be able to convert into a more efficient pantry styled one. You will need to think about how much space you are going to need in order to store all of the foods that you have in the home. If you are a large family then you may well need to convert more than one cabinet, whilst if you live alone then just the one should be more than sufficient.

When you have located a suitable option, then you will have to install the necessary shelving. One of the key attributes of a good pantry cabinet is the variation of shelves that it has. You should look to install a number of different shelves where you will be able to place all the different sized food items that you have in your home.

You can put these at varying heights depending on the items. For example, you might want to have some high shelves for things like bags of dry goods such as rice and pasta, as well as a small shelf for all of your spices.

When you have done all of this, you will be able to organise the entire cabinet to suit your style of cooking. If you desire it you can add in some plastic air tight containers where you can place things like flour. You may also want to label things up for added ease of use.

These are just a few tips on making your own pantry cabinets.
