Sympathy Plants: Tips to consider
Jan 4th, 2010 by smelly
Sympathy plants are sent when someone has past away. It is a way to express your feeling and showing that you care. Sometimes words are too difficult or not enough and a sympathy plant or flower is a strong way to show it.
Usually the flowers or plants are sent to the mortuary or the funeral home, the place where the wake is held by the family members. Sometimes it is held in a church and than the plants/flowers can be carried inside. When it comes to sending sympathy plants there are some things to consider and keep in mind.
Timing
it is not always easy to get the plant delivered exactly on the time you want. In the ideal situation you want the plant to arrive prior the first hours of visitation at the funeral home or church. if it is impossible to get the plants delivered up front than try to get them delivered before additional visitations. Rushing the sympathy plants to the grave because they arrived too late is not something that you want.
Delivery
You want to send the plants or flowers to the house of the family that are bereaved. This is especially so if you did not know the person too well that past away but when you want to show sympathy to the family. A good time to send the sympathy flowers or plants is approximately a month after the funeral. In this way you are showing that they are still in your thoughts.
Tokens of Sympathy
The family can decide to consider a donation to charity instead of accepting flowers and plants. Whatever your personal opinion is, you should always abide to the wished of the family and send money instead of flowers or plants if that is what they want.
Size does matter
It is very important to consider the size of the sympathy plant. It is kind of awkward if you are sending a very expensive plant when you don’t know the deceased person personally. However, when you are a very close friend or relative you want to send a larger of more expensive plant. An exception is when you know up front that there will not be many flowers to arrive, in that case you might want to send more than one plant.
Funerals are considered as very emotional happenings to family members and close friends. Sending a sympathy plant in order show sympathy and respect is always much appreciated.
