Tips For Buying Used Harley Parts on Ebay
Okay, so you have a Harley! Cool. Good for you. Now let's say it's not under warranty any longer and you have a problem with it. Where do you go? Back to the dealer? Or to the Average Joe's bike shop? You could do any of those things, or you could save a lot of money by buying used Harley parts on ebay and doing it yourself.
But before you head out and start bidding on the first parts you come across on ebay, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.
First, you'll need an account. That's easy enough to do and chances are you already have one. Next, you want to be very careful about the parts you bid on. Beware of Sellers who contact you and offer to sell the part to you before the auction ends. This is a no no as far as ebay is concerned.
Normally what happens is that you'll send in your money and the guy will "sell" the part to someone else also. So he makes a killing off of one part by "selling" it several times!
Also, try and use PayPal if you can. This way, if there's a complaint, you have someone to go to bat for you. Normally PayPal will take the side of the Buyer.
Never, ever send cash. That would be just plain stupid!
Also, be careful of buying used Harley parts that don't have pictures with the listing. You never know what you'll get. Make sure the photo's are clear and crisp and clearly shows everything you need.
Check how much the Seller will charge you for Shipping & Handling. It's a common practice on Ebay for Sellers to try and make money off of S&H. That's just not right! I've seen S&H charges run $30 to $50 for simple used parts. Beware of excessive S&H charges when bidding on used Harley parts on Ebay! You don't want to end up over paying for something as simple as a Harley Davidson oil filter because of excessive shipping and handling charges!
